about
Eobu Nolae is the first single to surface from KEDA's forthcoming album 'Hwal' to be released on Parenthèses Records on January 11 2015.
KEDA sees Mathias Delplanque (Bruit Clair Records, Baskaru, Crónica Electrónica, Optical Sound) joining forces with French-based Korean Geomungo master E'Joung-Ju (Printemps Coréen's Artistic Director, Moongogo, E'Joung-Ju Ensemble) to explore the potentials in confronting the ancestral sounds of the geomungo to electronic textures and treatments.
On Eobu Nolae, the geomungo, also described as the 'black zither', dictates the melody only punctuated by E'Joung-Ju's percussive effects created by her use of the Suldae (bamboo stick).
Mathias Delplanque's accompaniment, a clear reference to some of his previous work under the Lena moniker, takes the track into dub territories, building it into some hybrid Jamaican music, until reaching a hypnotic sound climax.
Tradition meets the continuum.
