A note from Mark Cain:

As a result of Australia’s proximity to Indonesia and considerable cultural exchange, it’s not surprising that a number of gamelan ensembles are active here. Over a decade ago I recorded various excerpts of gamelan instruments housed at a nearby university. Among my favourites were a number of beautiful large suspended low-pitched gongs that became the source of this piece.
